Use this window to view information about fan status
and critical/failure thresholds, and to set warning thresholds by
default or by entering a value.
| NOTE: The capabilities
for managing sensors vary by system. |
| NOTE: This help page
may include information about features not supported by your system.
Server Administrator only displays the features that are supported
on your system. |
The Edit Fan Probes window displays information about
the following:
- Status of each fan in your system
- RPM value at the time of the request
- Read-only information about minimum and maximum failure
thresholds
- Choice of setting warning thresholds by default or
by value

| NOTE: When assigning
probe threshold values, Server Administrator sometimes rounds the
minimum or maximum values you enter to the closest assignable value.
|
Status |
Determines whether the event type for this probe is Normal/OK, Warning/Noncritical, or Critical/Failure. |
Reading |
Displays a snapshot of the RPM measured by the probe
at a given time. | CAUTION: Unless your system has redundant fans, fan critical/failure
notification ( ) requires immediate intervention. |
| NOTE: Failure thresholds
are read-only values for all users. |
|
Minimum Failure Threshold |
Displays the lowest acceptable fan RPM that is required
for system operation. Values that fall below this fan RPM result in
critical/failure events. |
Maximum Failure Threshold |
Displays the highest acceptable fan RPM that is required
for system operation. Values that exceed this fan RPM result in critical/failure
events. |
Threshold Settings
Set to Default |
Sets the minimum and maximum fan RPM value for a
warning event at the default value. | NOTE: Systems that contain
embedded systems management (ESM3) capabilities do not allow you to
set warning threshold default values. |
|
Set to Values |
Allows power users and administrators to specify minimum
and maximum values for a fan RPM that triggers a warning event. |
Minimum Warning Threshold |
Displays the lowest acceptable fan RPM that is recommended
for system operation. Values that fall below this RPM level result
in warning events. |
Maximum Warning Threshold |
Displays the highest acceptable fan RPM that is recommended
for system operation. Values that exceed this fan RPM result in warning
events. |
Set Alert Actions
For instructions on how to configure which alert
actions your system is to initiate in case of a fan probe warning
or critical/failure event, see Set Alert Actions.
| NOTE: Due to
the limitations of the VMware ESXi operating system, the Setting Alert
Actions feature is not available with this release of Server Administrator. |
