Use this window to view and to clear the hardware logs. All users can view the hardware logs, but only administrators can clear the logs.

Hardware Log/Embedded System Management (ESM) Log

Use this window to look for potential problems in your system's hardware components.

Warning For ESM Log Space Consumption

OK Indicates that entries in the log consume less than 80 percent of the allotted space for the ESM log file.
non-critical Indicates that entries in the log consume 80 percent or more of the allotted space for the ESM log file. Resolve warning and critical events before clearing the log.
critical Indicates that entries in the log consume 100% of the allotted space for the ESM log file. If the log is allowed to reach 100 percent capacity, the latest events are discarded from the log.

ESM Log

The hardware log on your system is maintained in code embedded in the hardware on your system. ESM code is a code that is embedded in your system components. The hardware log compiles a list of normal, warning, and critical events. Each event has a date, time, and description. Clicking a column heading sorts by the column or changes the sort direction of the column.

Severity Displays one of the possible severities: OK/normal (ok) indicating that no corrective action is required. Caution (non-critical) directs your attention to a condition that should be addressed soon, or at the next scheduled maintenance. Critical (critical) indicates the need for immediate intervention by the system administrator to restore operational conditions or to prevent serious damage to the system.
Date and Time Displays the date and time of the logged hardware event in the following format: Day of the week, Month, Day, Time of the event in Hours, Minutes, and Seconds, and Year. For example: Thu Mar 14 12:01:30 2002
Description Displays a short summary of component conditions or actions that have been logged. The event description string has the format: Sensor Name : Sensor_Type_Str for EntityNameInstStr; SensorStateStr. For example:
  • CPU 1 Temp : Temperature Sensor for CPU 1; Exceeded lower critical threshold
  • PS1 Status : Power supply Sensor for PS 1; detected a failure condition
